What is a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)?

Are you suddenly in a situation where you are without health insurance? You may be in luck and qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) through the Marketplace. A SEP allows individuals to enroll in a plan or change their existing plan outside of the regular open enrollment period due to certain qualifying events.

You may qualify for a SEP if you have experienced certain life events like:

  • Loss of health coverage
  • Move to a new area or outside of your current plans service area
  • Marriage
  • Birth of a child
  • Potential change in
  • household income

There are other additional and maybe unexpected events that could trigger a SEP like being found ineligible for Medicaid or CHIP, Natural disasters, and becoming a US citizen.

It’s important to act quickly as many of these events have a certain “window” of time you must take action within.

Our firm can be a resource for these situations, and we can help guide and educate you on your options. We are PENNIE certified and also assist with OFF exchange plans.

Please contact Melanie Tumolo at melanie@ewmginc.com for more information.
